United States Marshals Museum for a National History Day Workshop

Friday October 13th, 2023 | 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

You will learn how your school can get involved in NHD and why it is not just for History classes. Learn how this program allows students to shine and build confidence through performances, papers, exhibits, websites, and documentaries. National History Day also meets Literacy frameworks and offers students the opportunity to strengthen their skills in research, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. You will learn about this year’s theme and collaborate with other teachers. There will also be a presentation by the US Marshal Museum and Arkansas Humanities council.

Up to 5 hours of Arkansas Professional Development credit will be available for attending the workshop.

Join us for an engaging day at the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources! In this free work-

shop, we will answer questions such as-What is National History Day? How can your school get involved in NHD? and more! We will look at why it is not just for History classes and see the different options for participating with your students. This program allows students to shine and build confidence through performances, essays, exhibits, websites, and documentaries. National History Day also meets Literacy frameworks and offers students the opportunity to strengthen their skills in research, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.

Up to 6 hours of Arkansas Profession Development credits will be available for attending the workshop.

Old State House Museum/ National History Day Workshop

What: An engaging day at the Old State House Museum.  You will hear from Arkansas History Day, the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia, the Old State House, and the Arkansas Humanities Council.

You will learn how your school can get involved in NHD and why it is not just for History classes.  Learn how this program allows students to shine and build confidence through performances, papers, exhibits, websites, and documentaries. National History Day also meets Literacy frameworks and offers students the opportunity to strengthen their skills in research, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.  You will learn about this year’s theme, Grant opportunities, Old State House resources and turning points in Asian History. Up to 6 hours of Arkansas Professional Development credits will be available for attending the workshop.

Harding University History Department/ National History Day Workshop

National History Day also meets Literacy frameworks and offers students the opportunity to strengthen their skills in research, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication.  You will learn about this year’s theme and collaborate with other teachers.  There will also be a presentation on The British Monarchy related to this year’s theme by Dr. Julie Harris who specializes in this area of History. You will also hear from this year’s New History Day teacher of the year about what she learned in her first year and what the process was like from the start to her travel with her winning students to Nationals.

Up to 6 hours of Arkansas Professional Development credits will be available for attending the workshop.

We will also look at why it is not just for History classes, and see the different options for participating with your students.  We will showcase the ways this program can let a variety of students shine through performance, writing papers, exhibits, websites, or documentaries. National History Day meets Literacy frameworks and teaches kids research skills, critical thinking, and collaboration. This workshop is for 6-12th grade Social Studies, English, GT, Drama, Art, and Technology teachers and school librarians

Up to 5 hours of Arkansas PD credit will be available for attending this workshop.
