Graphic Novels & other Books

Nonfiction books are books based in fact. Books in the history or biography section of the library are nonfiction. Warriors Don’t Cry by Melba Pattillo Beals is a good example of a nonfiction book.

Fiction books are short stories and novels that describe imaginary characters, places, and events. Historical fiction is set in the backdrop of real events or with real historical figures as their main or supporting characters but the author has made up many of the details or characters. For example Summer of My German Soldier, by Arkansas author Bette Greene, is set in the real events of World War II but the characters are fictional.

Inspiration for your History Day project can come from either non-fiction or fiction books but your project must be based on FACTS and PRIMARY SOURCES.
