We are delighted to introduce NHD Arkansas’s new coordinator, Angela Adams.

An Oklahoma native, Angela earned her MA in History at the University of Tulsa in 2001. She then taught middle school and high school social studies for 21 years, 15 of those years in Arkansas. This summer, Angela accepted a joint appointment at UCA. She will coordinate NHD Arkansas and teach in the History Department’s BSE program, which trains future history teachers. Thus from experience and in her current position, she understands what it means to be a busy teacher participating in History Day!

As a new History Day coordinator, Angela has focused on making History Day more user friendly. She has developed an intro powerpoint and student worksheet for this year’s theme. (Check out the Teacher Resource page to download copies.) Her next project is a substitute plan. Imagine, a teacher’s absence can become an opportunity for student History Day research!  Lastly, Angela has a knack for making even the most mundane material fun. She has put this talent to use developing a new professional development workshop and planning classroom visits.

Judy Huff will continue to serve as state contest manager and Story Matkin-Rawn will assist Angela part-time. We’re delighted to be able to work as a team this year. We are also relieved that restrictions on travel and classroom visits have lifted. Angela’s calendar is booked for September.  But you can still contact her to request a classroom visit or PD workshop for later this year.  If you aren’t on her email list, please take a moment to sign up below.

Wishing you a fantastic start to the school year and History Day!
